Tenders 2012, Germany

Vinmonopolet releases a list every year with tenders. They search for wines from specific areas with specified criteria, and all who produce this certain type of wine are welcome to submit their products to Vinmonopolet through their importer. This time they are looking for three wines from Germany.

The May release

All the three German wines requested are to be released in May of 2012. This means that the wines have to be submitted to Vinmonopolet from December 2011. The importers need to have the wines ready in Norway for delivery as close to the deadlines as possible. Contact your importer now to make appointments for delivery.

Basic range

Vinmonopolet is looking for two new wines for their Basic range, one from the Mosel and one from Pfalz. It is not yet clarified if the Mosel wine might be a ”one lot” range, but the criteria are that it has to be an Erste Lage wine, 100 % Riesling or one of the other traditional grapes. The vintage they seek is 2009 or 2010 in the price range NOK 200-250. The Pfalz wine will be a part of the Basic range and could prove to be one of the new best sellars in Norway. The criteria for the wine are 100 % Riesling, vintage 2010 or younger, and price NOK 125-150.

One lot range

The last wine is from Rheinhessen. A Riesling QbA Trocken, vintage 2010 or younger, NOK 150-175. Rheinhessen has shown to be a great hit in Norway and this could become a top selling wine with the right quality and price. A minimum of 1200 bottles is required.

The others

Unfortunately there were no requests for Spätburgunder, Silvaner or the other grape varieties this time around. We are currently working on spreading the knowledge of these excellent wines from Germany and we will be hosting a full day in 2012 with focus on these grapes. We would like to encourage German producers to continue their pursuit of even higher quality, and the Norwegian importers to open their eyes to other grapes from Germany that holds a very high standard and are also reasonably priced.
